15 Major Airlines Partner with Apple for Enhanced AirTag Tracking Solutions

Apple has launched an innovative new feature called Share Item Location, designed to help users recover misplaced items, including luggage, by easily and securely sharing the location of their AirTag or Find My network accessory with third parties such as airlines.

This feature, now available as part of the public beta of iOS 18.2, will soon be accessible to all users as a free software update for iPhone Xs and later models.

To use this feature, iPhone, iPad, or Mac users can generate a Share Item Location link through the Find My app. This link can be shared with a recipient, such as an airline, who can then view the item’s location on an interactive map.

The website linked to the location will continuously update with the latest available position and show a timestamp of the most recent update.

In a significant expansion of this functionality, over 15 major airlines around the world, including Aer Lingus, Air Canada, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, and United, will soon integrate Share Item Location into their baggage-tracking processes.

This partnership aims to improve the customer experience by enabling airlines to track mishandled or delayed luggage more effectively. More airlines will be added to the service over time, benefiting millions of passengers globally.

Apple has worked directly with its airline partners to ensure the secure implementation of this new feature, with access to location links limited to a small group of authorized personnel.

Additionally, SITA, a leader in air transport technology, is working to incorporate Share Item Location into WorldTracer, the baggage-tracing system used by over 500 airlines and ground handlers worldwide.

With Share Item Location, passengers will have more control over the location of their luggage, and airlines will be better equipped to respond to and resolve issues related to lost or delayed bags
