Oman is set to expand its aviation infrastructure significantly with plans to construct six new airports, anticipated to be operational between 2028 and 2029.

Alongside this infrastructure development, Oman aims to introduce a new low-cost airline, aligning with the global tourism resurgence and the continuous growth of the Gulf state’s aviation sector. The CAA issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), inviting investment for the establishment of this new airline operator in the sultanate.

With these infrastructure developments, Oman anticipates a significant increase in airport passenger traffic, projected to reach 50 million by 2040, up from the current 17 million, Al Abri noted.

The strategic location of the upcoming airports is aimed at attracting more international traffic and enhancing logistics and tourism in specific regions, according to the top official. These new facilities will serve to connect passengers with Oman’s industrial areas in Sohar, Salalah, and Duqm.

Furthermore, the authority intends to license a new airline that will leverage Oman’s strategic location and its growing air traffic, facilitated by its modern airports.
