Delta Flight Diverted to JFK After Passengers Served ‘Contaminated’ Food

Delta Airlines Predicts 'Normalized' Pilot Hiring in 2025, Aiming for 5,000 New Positions

A Delta Airlines flight bound from Detroit to Amsterdam took an unexpected turn when it was diverted to New York’s Kennedy Airport following reports of spoiled food served to passengers.

The incident unfolded during the redeye flight, which departed Detroit late on Tuesday night and landed in New York early Wednesday morning. Delta spokespersons confirmed that the decision to divert the flight came after concerns were raised about a portion of the Main Cabin meal service being spoiled.

Upon landing at JFK Airport around 4 a.m., medical personnel attended to 14 passengers and 10 crew members who reported feeling unwell due to the contaminated food.

Flight tracking data from FlightRadar24 indicated that the Delta aircraft was redirected over Saint Pierre and Miquelon, an archipelago south of Canada’s Newfoundland, following consultations between the flight crew and medical experts on board.

The airline has not yet revealed how the contamination was found, how many of the 277 passengers ate the meal, or whether any of them experienced food poisoning symptoms.

As per a statement released by Delta Airlines, it is stated that a little amount of the food was spoiled and they genuinely regret for any trouble and delay caused to their clients during their travels.

Our suppliers have been tasked by Delta’s Food Safety team to isolate the product right away and begin a comprehensive investigation into what happened. Delta sincerely apologizes to its passengers for any discomfort and delay caused by this service, which is not what the airline is known for.
