No Food Service on Long and Short-Haul Flights from Major UK Airports

Passengers flying with major airlines from UK airports could soon face flights without food or drink service, as over 700 dnata catering staff prepare to vote on industrial action.

The affected employees, who work in production, warehousing, and delivery across eight UK airports—including Heathrow, Gatwick, and Manchester—are in dispute over changes to their terms and conditions that they claim were imposed without proper consultation.

If the strike moves forward, major airlines such as British Airways, easyJet, Ryanair, Emirates, American Airlines, and Air India are among those that could be impacted.

The union representing the dnata employees, Unite, warned travelers of possible “foodless flights” if dnata workers decide to “down tools” in protest.

A spokesperson from dnata UK responded, stating, “We have continuously tried to reach a fair resolution. Despite a recent salary increase addressing cost-of-living pressures, Unite has rejected our offers, instead moving towards strike action.

Contrary to claims, no changes to terms and conditions have been made without consultation, and we’re committed to open dialogue to find a solution.”

With the ballot underway, UK air travelers may soon be caught in the crossfire of this unresolved pay and conditions dispute, potentially leaving flights without catering services if the strike goes ahead.
