Pakistan Unveils Ambitious PFX Fighter Jet to Rival India's Tejas

At the recently concluded IDEAS 2024 defense exhibition, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) revealed details of its ambitious PFX (Pakistan Fighter Program), an initiative aimed at creating an indigenous 4.5+ generation fighter aircraft.

This marks a significant step towards strengthening Pakistan’s air combat capabilities while reducing reliance on imported military platforms.

The PFX is designed to be more advanced than the PAF’s current JF-17 fighter jet. According to PAF officials, the new fighter will incorporate cutting-edge stealth technology, making it harder for radars to detect.

One of the key features of the PFX will be its passive radar system, allowing it to detect enemy aircraft without giving away its own position.

This fighter jet is expected to compete directly with India’s Tejas aircraft, a milestone achievement in India’s indigenously developed fighter programs.

Pakistan’s PFX, which is being developed with the goal of operational readiness in the next 4-5 years, is designed to be a twin-engine fighter jet. It will feature advanced design elements, including canards that will enhance maneuverability and overall aerodynamic performance.

Additionally, the PFX will be equipped with cutting-edge sensors like an Infrared Search and Track (IRST) system and a locally developed AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar. The PAF also envisions the PFX as an exportable platform, potentially mirroring the success of the JF-17, which has found international customers.
