ANA Announces $14 Billion Aircraft Order from Airbus, Boeing & Embraer

All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest airline, has announced a major fleet expansion, placing orders for new aircraft from Airbus, Boeing, and Embraer. The move is aimed at meeting growing passenger demand and enhancing the airline’s long-term sustainability.
At a recent board of directors meeting, ANA Holdings, Inc. (ANAHD) confirmed plans to order 77 new aircraft, strategically positioning itself for future growth.
This decision comes as ANA prepares for increased international travel demand, particularly between Asia and North America, and the expansion of Narita International Airport. The airline is also focused on modernizing its domestic fleet with more fuel-efficient aircraft.
Fleet Expansion and Sustainability Goals
By FY2030, ANAHD expects to have around 320 aircraft in its fleet, including approximately 120 Boeing 787 series jets. This expansion will increase the ratio of fuel-efficient aircraft to 91%, significantly contributing to environmental sustainability. The airline is replacing aircraft suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic while adding new orders to support growth.
International Fleet Growth
- ANA will acquire 18 Boeing 787-9 aircraft (powered by GE engines) to support international expansion, particularly on transpacific routes.
- These additions align with anticipated demand on Asia-North America routes and the planned re-expansion of Narita International Airport.
- By FY2030, ANA expects available seat kilometers (ASK) on international routes to increase by 1.5 times compared to FY2023.
Domestic Fleet Modernization
- For the first time in Japan, ANA will introduce 20 Embraer E190-E2 jets (15 confirmed orders and 5 options), a 100-seat class aircraft designed for fuel efficiency and operational flexibility.
- These aircraft will enter service in FY2028, helping ANA optimize domestic capacity and reduce operating costs.
- 14 Airbus A321neo aircraft and 12 Boeing 737-8 aircraft (8 confirmed orders and 4 options) will replace older jets in ANA’s domestic fleet.
- Peach Aviation, ANA’s low-cost carrier, will receive 10 Airbus A321neo and 3 Airbus A321XLR aircraft to support its expansion.
Additionally, ANAHD has finalized previous options for:
- 5 Boeing 787-9 aircraft (announced in February 2020).
- 10 Boeing 737-8 aircraft (announced in January 2019).
Strategic Growth and Customer Focus
This large-scale fleet expansion underscores ANA Group’s commitment to both international growth and domestic market optimization. The airline aims to enhance corporate value by prioritizing safety, service quality, and operational efficiency, while also ensuring financial sustainability to meet shareholder expectations.
With these new aircraft, ANA is positioning itself as a leader in fuel-efficient, next-generation aviation, reinforcing its status as Japan’s premier airline.
