Archer Unveils Plans for the UAE’s First eVTOL Hybrid Heliport at Abu Dhabi

Archer Aviation is making history by transforming the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal helipad into the Middle East’s first hybrid heliport, capable of supporting both helicopters and electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
This landmark project, developed in partnership with Falcon Aviation and in collaboration with the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), marks a major step toward urban air mobility (UAM) in the region.
Pioneering Advanced Air Mobility in the UAE
archer hybrid heliport is part of a broader strategy to establish a UAM network across the UAE, with air taxi operations expected to launch soon in partnership with abudhabi Aviation (ADA). Once operational, the facility will serve as a key hub for commercial air taxi services, offering seamless connectivity for passengers.
World’s First Hybrid Heliport Regulations
A key highlight of this initiative is the GCAA’s development of the world’s first regulatory framework for hybrid heliports.
These standards will ensure safe and efficient operations for both traditional helicopters and next-gen evtol aircraft from a single platform. After extensive industry consultations, the GCAA aims to finalize these regulations by July 2025.
Why the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal?
The cruise terminal site was chosen for its strategic location—welcoming over 650,000 cruise passengers annually and acting as a hub for tourism and connectivity. The terminal offers direct access to key landmarks, including the Abu Dhabi Port, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Corniche, and the upcoming Saadiyat Cultural District.
Dubai-based Air Synapsis, a specialist in heliport and vertiport planning, has contributed to the development by supporting apron and airspace design, helping ensure the hybrid facility meets operational and safety requirements.
