DGCA Issues Notice to IndiGo Over Simulator Training for 1,700 Pilots

India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has found itself under the regulatory spotlight after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued a show cause notice over alleged lapses in simulator training for nearly 1,700 pilots.

The move underscores the DGCA’s firm stance on ensuring the highest safety standards, especially when it comes to critical flight operations at challenging airports.

According to official sources, the DGCA issued the notice after a thorough scrutiny of training records and responses provided by IndiGo last month.

The irregularities reportedly relate to simulator sessions required for pilots operating in high-risk conditions, such as table-top runways—examples include Calicut airport, where additional operational requirements are mandated for safety.

The show cause notice, issued earlier this week, seeks explanations from IndiGo on how these lapses occurred and what corrective actions are being implemented.

IndiGo Responds

In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the receipt of the DGCA’s notice, saying,

“We confirm receipt of a show cause notice issued by the DGCA pertaining to simulator training of some of our pilots. We are in the process of reviewing the same and will respond to the regulator within the stipulated timeline.”

The airline further emphasised its commitment to maintaining the highest safety and compliance standards across its operations.

Major MRO Expansion Amid Scrutiny

The DGCA notice comes at a time when IndiGo is aggressively investing in operational capabilities. The airline recently kicked off construction of a 31-acre MRO facility at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.

Once operational, the facility will serve as a key hub for maintaining its expanding fleet, aimed at enhancing efficiency, reducing downtime, and supporting long-term growth.
