Godrej Aerospace Wins 5-Year Safran Deal to Supply LEAP Engine Parts in India

Godrej Aerospace Wins 5-Year Safran Deal to Supply LEAP Engine Parts in India

India’s aerospace sector has taken another big step forward. In a boost to the Make in India vision, Godrej Aerospace — part of the Godrej Enterprises Group — has signed a five-year agreement with Safran Aircraft Engines to manufacture advanced components for the world’s most widely used new-generation aircraft engine: the LEAP engine.

This collaboration not only strengthens India’s role in global aerospace manufacturing but also highlights Safran’s growing trust in Indian capabilities for critical engine parts.

The Agreement at a Glance

Under the new contract, Godrej Aerospace will produce titanium-based complex ventilation assemblies for LEAP engines. These highly specialized parts sit inside the main turbine shaft of the engine and are vital for its smooth and safe performance. Their production requires:

  • Complex machining
  • Precision welding
  • Advanced non-destructive testing (NDT)

In a statement, the company emphasized that these assemblies demand exceptional accuracy and must meet stringent global quality standards.

Unique Features of the LEAP Engine

Developed by CFM International — a joint venture of GE Aerospace and Safran — the LEAP engine powers next-generation narrow-body aircraft like the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX.
Key features include:

  • 15–20% better fuel efficiency compared with older engines.
  • Lower CO₂ emissions, meeting strict global standards.
  • Quieter operations, reducing noise at airports.
  • Use of advanced composite materials and ceramic matrix components for higher durability and efficiency.

These features have made the LEAP engine the preferred choice for airlines worldwide.

Strengthening Global Partnerships

Commenting on the milestone, Maneck Behramkamdin, Executive Vice President and Business Head of Aerospace at Godrej Enterprises, said:

“By building such highly complex parts in India, we are taking forward the Make in India vision on a global stage. This collaboration with Safran highlights our mutual commitment to innovation, reliability, and world-class quality.”

The deal reinforces Godrej’s longstanding partnership with Safran and expands its contribution to international aero-engine programs.

A Step Toward Global Leadership

This agreement not only cements Godrej Aerospace’s position in high-value aerospace manufacturing but also signals Safran’s continued investment in Indian talent and technology. As demand for LEAP engines grows worldwide, India’s role in powering the next generation of flight is set to expand significantly.
