Air hostess detained for smuggling 1kg of gold Concealed In Rectum at Kannur airport
A shocking incident at Kannur airport has put the spotlight on airline crew members involved in illegal activities.
On May 28, a 26-year-old Air India Express cabin crew member, Surabhi Khatun, was apprehended by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for allegedly smuggling gold. The method of concealment was particularly startling – the gold, nearly one kilogram in weight, was hidden in her rectum.
Hailing from Kolkata, Surabhi Khatun was caught in possession of 960 grams of smuggled gold during a personal search at the airport. This wasn’t an isolated incident; reports suggest that Khatun had been involved in gold smuggling on multiple occasions in the past.
Following her arrest, Khatun was subjected to interrogation and necessary procedures before being presented before the jurisdictional magistrate. She was subsequently remanded to 14 days in the women’s prison in Kannur.
This incident marks a significant first in India – the detention of an airline crew member for gold smuggling. It raises concerns about the integrity and security measures within the aviation industry. Authorities are now investigating whether others were involved in this illegal activity.
