Air India launches robotic-enabled eco-friendly aircraft cleaner

On Saturday, Air India announced the implementation of an automated exterior washing and cleaning system for its wide-body aircraft, which has the potential to save up to 75,000 litres of water annually per aircraft.

The ‘Aerowash gadget boasts several contemporary features, such as a robotic micro-fibre brush drum for cleaning and a nearly waterless operation that increases operational efficiency and contributes to sustainability. The ‘Aerowash‘ can save up to 30,000 litres of water per narrow-body aircraft and up to 75,000 litres per wide-body aircraft per year.

However, automated cleaning not only saves time and is environmentally friendly, but it also lessens aerodynamic drag brought on by the buildup of dust, dirt, or grime, which ultimately results in a lighter aircraft.

This eventually leads to increased fuel efficiency with a smaller carbon footprint, protects against structural damage, prevents corrosion, and lengthens the aircraft’s lifespan.

In addition to improving the aircraft’s appearance, the superior cleaning will guarantee a better cleaning by reaching even the most important parts, such as the rudder, elevator, and crown.
