Air India & Lufthansa Group Announce 60 New Codeshare Routes

Air India is enhancing travel convenience for passengers with a major expansion of its codeshare partnership with Lufthansa Group.
This extended agreement now includes Austrian Airlines and strengthens existing partnerships with Lufthansa and SWISS International Air Lines (SWISS). The expansion unlocks smoother connections, more flight options, and seamless travel experiences across Europe and beyond.
Enhanced Connectivity Across 60 New Routes
The expanded partnership significantly improves travel between India and Europe, adding nearly 60 new codeshare routes covering 12 Indian and 26 European cities. The total number of codeshare routes between Air India, Lufthansa, and SWISS increases from 55 to nearly 100, while Austrian Airlines introduces 26 new routes.

SWISS (Zurich to):

Austrian Airlines (Vienna to):

In return, Lufthansa Group passengers will now have access to 15 domestic destinations in India via Air India’s network, including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Goa Mopa, Goa Dabolim, Hyderabad, Indore, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Additionally, Lufthansa Group airlines will place their designator codes on Air India’s international flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Kathmandu, Melbourne, and Sydney, offering a broader range of travel options.
More Flight Choices on India-Europe Routes
Under this expanded agreement, air india and Lufthansa Group carriers will jointly operate flights between India, Germany, and Switzerland. For example, travelers flying between Delhi and Frankfurt will now have three daily flight options under Lufthansa’s ‘LH’ flight numbers—two operated by Air India and one by Lufthansa.
The partnership will continue to grow, with plans to progressively include additional destinations in the future.
Exclusive Benefits for Frequent Flyers
All four airlines—Air India, Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian Airlines—are part of Star Alliance, ensuring seamless loyalty program benefits. Frequent flyers will continue earning and redeeming points/miles across all carriers. Elite members of Air India’s Maharaja Club and Lufthansa Group’s Miles & More program will enjoy Star Alliance Gold perks, such as priority check-in, extra baggage allowance, and access to exclusive airport lounges worldwide.
