Air India May Soon Offer Nonstop Flights to these US Cities

Air India & Lufthansa Group Announce 60 New Codeshare Routes

Air India, owned by the Tata Group, is set to expand its operations in the United States as part of its strategy to grow its international presence.

With plans for new routes, more frequent flights, and the addition of widebody aircraft, the airline aims to better serve the growing Indian community across America.

As a member of the Star Alliance network, Air India is planning to introduce new flights to major U.S. cities like Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Boston Logan (BOS), and Los Angeles (LAX). This expansion will provide more travel options for passengers flying between India and the U.S.

Direct Flights Between India and U.S. Cities

Air India will primarily operate these new routes from its hub at Delhi International Airport (DEL), and there’s also the possibility of launching direct flights between Dallas and Hyderabad (HYD).

While challenges exist—such as the widebody fleet being based in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru—the airline is focused on meeting demand, especially during peak travel times.

Indian residents in the Dallas-Fort Worth area have long requested direct flights to India. With around 400,000 Indian nationals in the region, and many speaking Telugu, the potential for a Dallas-Hyderabad route is strong.

Air India’s Growing U.S. Network

Currently, Air India operates 11 direct routes between India and North America, linking Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru with cities such as New York (JFK), Newark, San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, Toronto, and Vancouver.

The airline’s expansion will now include new destinations like Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, and Seattle, strengthening its U.S. network.

Air India’s Share of North American Flights

Between October 2024 and February 2025, Air India is expected to control 75% of the nonstop seats between India and North America, according to Cirium data.

When combined with its Star Alliance partners—United Airlines and Air Canada—that share jumps to an impressive 94%, highlighting Air India’s growing dominance in direct transcontinental flights.
