Airbus Looks to Boost A330 Orders at Farnborough Air Show

Airbus SE is intensifying its efforts to secure orders for its A330neo airliner, at upcoming Farnborough International Airshow, aiming to position the widebody aircraft as a compelling alternative to more cutting-edge jets.

The A330neo, an evolution of the model that first entered service in the mid-1990s, offers favorable economics and availability, which Airbus is highlighting to attract potential buyers.

Among the prospective customers are Saudi Arabia’s Flynas and Flyadeal, as well as Vietnam’s Vietjet Aviation JSC, according to a Bloomberg report. A significant influx of orders would bolster the A330neo’s backlog, which features enhancements such as more fuel-efficient engines and a redesigned wing.

Despite Airbus’s recent success with its more advanced A350 airliner, which has experienced high demand, the A330neo’s availability could serve as an attractive option for airlines facing slot constraints with newer models.

In contrast, Boeing Co. is striving to generate interest in its 777X model, which has seen sluggish sales due to certification delays that have postponed its market debut by at least five years.

Korean Air Lines Co., which announced in June that it is considering up to 30 new jets from Boeing, is evaluating the smaller 787 Dreamliner and also exploring the 777X for its freighter needs.

With the A321neo fully booked until well into the next decade and both Airbus and Boeing grappling with production ramp-ups, discussions at the air show have focused on supply chain issues and delayed aircraft deliveries.

Nevertheless, the Farnborough Airshow, which alternates annually with the Paris Airshow, is expected to yield hundreds of commercial jet orders, encompassing new deals, commitments, and previously secured agreements.
