Airbus Unveils New Airspace Interior & EDW Options for A330neo

At the Aircraft Interiors Expo (AIX), Airbus has unveiled a full-size mockup of its A330neo, showcasing an array of innovative Airspace cabin features set to be available for customers from 2027/2028.

These enhancements aim to elevate the overall passenger experience while promoting consistency with the larger A350, contributing to significant weight savings of approximately 100 kg across the aircraft – equivalent to around 10 carry-on bags.

Central to these innovations is the introduction of the Airspace Hero Light, a premium option for the A330neo set to debut in 2027. Positioned between Doors-1 and Doors-2, this customizable lighting system offers 16 million color options and unique patterns, providing airlines with a key differentiation feature. Passengers will enjoy a more personalized ambiance, enhancing their in-flight experience.

In addition to the Hero Light, the new Airspace cabin will feature redesigned interior elements, including linings for the sidewall, ceiling, and door frame panels. These enhancements not only improve aesthetics but also contribute to overall weight reduction.

The new sidewalls provide an extra 5 mm of shoulder clearance at every window seat, while a re-profiled dado panel at floor level offers 50 mm more foot-space, enhancing passenger comfort. According to Airbus engineering estimates, the sidewall and dado panel solutions alone will save approximately 85 kg throughout the aircraft.

The new door-frame lining simplifies installation and replacement by reducing the number of parts, achieving an additional 5 kg of weight savings. This refined design enhances the aesthetic appeal around the door, contributing to a sleeker cabin interior.

Airbus is also introducing the option of electro-dimmable windows (EDWs) for the A330neo, an innovation currently available on the A350. Manufactured by Gentex, these latest-generation EDWs darken quickly, block more than 99.999% of visible light, and effectively shield passengers from infra-red energy from the sun.

The new sidewall panel design facilitates easy clip-in replacement or interchangeability between electro-mechanical shades and EDW parts, providing airlines with flexible and modern cabin solutions.
