American Airlines Brings Smart Boarding Tech to Over 100 Airports

Just in time for the holiday season, American Airlines is rolling out an advanced boarding technology to over 100 airports across the U.S.
This innovative system aims to streamline the boarding process, ensuring passengers board in their designated groups while giving team members better tools to manage flights efficiently.
After successful trials at Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and Tucson International Airport (TUS), the technology has proven its effectiveness.
If a passenger attempts to board ahead of their assigned group, the system alerts both the gate agent and the passenger, inviting them to rejoin the line when their group is called. For those traveling with companions in an earlier boarding group, a simple override feature allows them to board together seamlessly.
This platform, developed in-house with team member feedback, provides several benefits:
- Enhanced insight into the number of passengers in each group, helping agents manage the flow of boarding.
- Improved tracking of connecting flights, allowing agents to anticipate potential delays or missed connections.
- Simplified operations by consolidating multiple applications into one user-friendly interface, enabling efficient boarding and on-time departures.
American Airlines will continue to gather feedback during this rollout, starting with spoke airports like Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL).
The airline plans to expand this technology to major hubs and additional airports in the coming months, further improving the travel experience for customers and team members alike.
