China’s 6th-Generation Tailless Fighter Jet Takes First Flight

As the competition for air dominance heats up, countries like Japan and the UK have already unveiled their ambitious 6th-generation fighter jets. Now, China has made a bold move in this race, reaching a significant milestone in military aviation.

On December 26, 2024, China successfully completed the maiden flight of its next-generation fighter jet, following its debut earlier in the year at the Zhuhai Airshow. This historic flight, shared widely on social media, strengthens China’s position as a major player in the future of military aviation.

The flight took place at the Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC) headquarters in Chengdu, Sichuan province.

CAC, a key subsidiary of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), has been behind some of China’s most advanced fighter jets, including the J-10 and J-20, used by the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). This successful flight highlights China’s growing expertise in cutting-edge aerospace technology.

Early reports reveal several key features of the new fighter jet. Its unique three-engine setup provides extra thrust, allowing for superior performance in a variety of mission scenarios. The jet is also designed to operate at altitudes over 20 kilometers, making it well-suited for extreme high-altitude missions.

In addition, the fighter jet has dual capabilities as both a fighter and a bomber. This versatility makes it a powerful asset for both air superiority and precision strike missions.

The successful flight has drawn international attention, marking a significant moment in the race for 6th-generation fighter jets. These next-gen jets are expected to feature revolutionary technologies, such as artificial intelligence, hypersonic speeds, and advanced electronic warfare systems.
