F-35 Jet Crash in Alaska: How the Pilot Escaped Disaster on the Runway

The F-35 Lightning II is one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world, known for its stealth, speed, and cutting-edge technology.
As the most expensive U.S. defense program, the Pentagon plans to spend $1.7 trillion on the aircraft, purchasing 2,500 jets over the coming decades. Manufactured by Lockheed Martin, the F-35 contributes about 30% of the company’s revenue, making it a crucial part of U.S. military aviation.
However, despite its state-of-the-art capabilities, the F-35 has faced multiple incidents over the years. Last year in October, an F-35B Lightning II crashed in South Carolina after an electrical malfunction caused the pilot to eject amid a rainstorm. The aircraft flew unmanned for over 11 minutes before crashing nearly 60 miles away.
Now, another crash has been reported—this time during a training exercise in Alaska.
Crash at Eielson Air Force Base
A shocking incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, January 28, when an F-35 fighter jet crashed onto the runway at Eielson Air Force Base in Alaska. The jet burst into flames, resulting in significant damage to the aircraft.
According to reports, the accident happened while landing during a training exercise. However, Eielson spokesperson Staff Sgt. Kimberly Touchet stated that the exact circumstances—whether it occurred during landing or takeoff—are still under investigation. Officials are expected to provide more details in a news conference later.
Thankfully, the pilot survived and was immediately transported to Bassett Army Hospital for evaluation. The extent of any injuries has not been disclosed.
