Fatal Tire Explosion at Atlanta Airport Results in Two Delta Employees Dead, One Injured
A tragic incident at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday morning resulted in the deaths of two Delta Air Lines employees and serious injuries to a third. The accident occurred in a hangar at the airport while the crew was performing maintenance on an aircraft, specifically changing a tire, when the tire exploded.
The two deceased employees have been identified as Mirko Marweb, 58, and Luis Aldarondo, 37, both of Georgia. Delta Air Lines released a statement expressing their deep sorrow over the incident. “
The Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of two team members and the injury of another following an incident this morning at the Atlanta Technical Operations Maintenance facility (TOC 3),” the airline stated. “We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”
The airline also expressed gratitude for the swift response from first responders and medical teams who arrived at the scene. “We are now working with local authorities and conducting a full investigation to determine what happened,” the statement continued. The explosion occurred as the plane, which had arrived from Las Vegas the previous night, was being serviced.
In response to the tragedy, Delta’s spokesperson Laughter offered condolences to the victims’ families and highlighted the airline’s commitment to investigating the cause of the explosion.
“Tragically, two of our team members involved passed away and one other team member was seriously injured,” Laughter said. “We are extending our full support to their families at this difficult time and conducting an investigation to determine what happened. This news is heartbreaking for all of us.”
The cause of the tire explosion remains unclear as the investigation continues. Delta Air Lines is working closely with local authorities to uncover the circumstances leading to the fatal accident.
