PIA Plane Lands in Lahore with One Wheel Missing—Lost or Stolen?

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has once again found itself at the center of controversy. Just recently, the airline made headlines for its bizarre marketing blunder, advertising “PIA is coming to Paris,” which caused a storm of confusion. Now, the airline is back in the spotlight—this time for a far more serious issue.
A PIA domestic flight from Karachi to Lahore landed at Allama Iqbal International Airport with one of its six rear wheels missing.
The shocking incident, which occurred on Thursday morning, fortunately did not result in any injuries or major mishaps. However, it has once again raised concerns about PIA’s deteriorating safety standards.
Investigation Underway
A PIA spokesperson confirmed that an investigation is in progress to determine whether the aircraft took off from Karachi with the missing wheel or if it detached mid-air. Aviation authorities and airline officials have launched a probe, but given PIA’s track record, one might wonder if the report will ever see the light of day.
Adding to the absurdity, the airline has assured passengers that the aircraft was designed to handle such contingencies and that there was “no risk” to those on board. Apparently, flying with missing parts is now considered a feature rather than a flaw.
Could the Wheel Have Been Stolen?
In a final twist, authorities are even investigating whether the wheel was stolen—because in Pakistan, even airplane parts aren’t safe from disappearing.
While the possibility seems unlikely, the mere fact that it’s being considered speaks volumes about the state of aviation infrastructure and maintenance in the country.
A PIA team has been dispatched to Lahore to investigate the incident further, with safety and aviation authorities also looking into the matter. As the probe continues, one can only hope that this latest embarrassment serves as a wake-up call for much-needed improvements in Pakistan’s national carrier.
