WestJet Unveils ‘One-Way Flights’ to Canada After Trump Win

After the U.S. election results rolled in, WestJet tapped into a rising trend among Americans: a curiosity about moving north.
Running clever ads on Instagram, WestJet hinted at “one-way flights to Canada,” seemingly appealing to Americans considering a change of scenery. Following election night, Google searches for “flights to Canada” surged, reflecting this renewed interest in Canadian travel.
Though the ad didn’t appear on WestJet’s main social media pages, followers quickly shared screenshots, praising the marketing team for their timely approach. “Hey WestJet,” one user wrote, “someone in marketing deserves a raise!”
Meanwhile, WestJet travelers can now find great rates on sites like Kayak and Expedia, with Mexico City and Montreal emerging as top North American destinations. According to Hotels.com, travelers can find accommodations in these cities for less than $200 per night.
In an unrelated but timely expansion, WestJet and food delivery platform Skip have joined forces to offer exclusive benefits for travelers. WestJet Rewards members will soon be able to select a Skip gift card as part of their rewards, and Skip’s new membership, Skip+, will include access to unique WestJet perks.
As the partnership evolves, more features and offers are set to roll out in 2025, delivering even more value and rewards for both WestJet Rewards and Skip+ members.
With innovative perks and clever campaigns, WestJet’s latest moves position it as both savvy and in touch with customer sentiment.
