World's First Canine Airline, BARK Air, Takes Off First Flight

The first jet charter company where every passenger is a VIP (Very Important Pup) has officially taken to the skies.

BARK Air, launched by dog toy company BARK in partnership with a jet charter service, is a luxury airline specifically for dogs, ensuring that man’s best friend travels “in comfort and in style,” according to CEO Matt Meeker.

In a video provided by Reuters, Meeker takes the public behind the scenes of this unique new airline. “We’re here to revolutionize flying for dogs.”

BARK Air’s inaugural flight took off at 4 p.m. ET from New York, headed to Los Angeles, with tickets selling out quickly. The airline has seen a high demand for its flights, with bookings filling up fast for the month of June. The service caters to pet owners who want to avoid the discomfort of putting their dogs in crates or carriers during travel.

The airline promises a “white paw service” to its canine customers, allowing dogs to socialize with other pups in a “dog-centric” cabin configuration. Much like first-class human passengers, dogs on board are treated to various amenities including treats, noise-canceling ear muffs, a beverage of their choice, and other surprises.

BARK Air operates private Gulfstream G-5 jets, rather than standard airliners. Currently, the airline offers one-way and round-trip flights from New York to Los Angeles and New York to London. Prices start at $6,000 for a flight to New York.
