Rs 400 for Rajma Chawal? SpiceJet Flier Lashes Out at Pricey Airport Food and Delays

SpiceJet Faces Check-In Denials, Flies Empty from Dubai

A recent post on social media captured the frustration of a SpiceJet passenger who experienced what he described as the “worst flight experience” ever at Delhi’s Terminal 1 (T1) airport.

The ordeal began when the traveler discovered that the lounge he intended to use was closed for renovations, leaving him with no choice but to purchase food from the terminal. The prices were nothing short of shocking: Rs 200 for a cup of tea, Rs 300 for coffee, and Rs 400 for a plate of Rajma Chawal.

The passenger’s day only got worse from there. His SpiceJet flight, initially delayed by an hour, faced an additional two-hour delay, during which passengers were asked to disembark from the aircraft. The combination of expensive food and prolonged waiting times left the traveler fuming, and he took to social media to vent his frustrations.

Since the post was shared on August 25, it has garnered over 600 upvotes and numerous comments, sparking a lively debate among users. Some people pointed out that high food prices at airports are a global norm. One user commented, “Are you travelling for the 1st time? These are pretty common rates at airports. SpiceJet sucks though, I always choose Indigo or Air India even if it means paying a bit more. Sucks about the lounge though, didn’t know it was under renovation.”

Another user echoed the sentiment against SpiceJet, sharing a similar experience: “Never travel with SpiceJet, once my flight was scheduled to depart at 3:30 pm, it left at around 9:30 pm. From then on, I decided never to travel with this airline, even if it’s the cheapest option available.”

A third commenter took a different approach, advising travelers to prepare ahead and avoid airport food altogether. “You should bring food from home instead of crying about food prices at the airport. Airport food is expensive all over the world. It’s like coming to the beach and crying about sand,” they remarked.
