British Airways Offering Money for Passengers, Who Skip the Lounge
As a result of the Galleries First Lounge’s overpopulation, British Airways has been paying travelers to avoid using it. It appears that there were several delays and cancellations, which caused the lounges to be quite congested, consequently, BA chose to take steps to deter customers from arriving by offering an incentive.
For £30 per person, you can get a decent drink and food at one of the restaurants, which is certainly more enjoyable than a crowded lounge.
One of the passengers said that as the Galleries First lounge had reached capacity, he had been given the option of forgoing access for £30 . He had come into the terminal via the prestigious First Wing, which led directly into the British Airways lounge complex. He claims that he was given money when he got to the check-in desk in exchange for forgoing using the lounge on that trip.
In light of the increased number of Gold Card holders who have access to lounges, the provision of reimbursement could encourage consumers to wait elsewhere or head straight to their gates.
