BA cabin manager accidentally deploys emergency slide on B787 Dreamliner

On January 4, as a Boeing 787 Dreamliner was still taxiing to the gate after a commercial flight to Mumbai with passengers on board, senior British Airways cabin crew accidentally activated the aircraft’s emergency slide.

After an 8-hour flight from London Heathrow, the seven-year-old Boeing 787-9 had just touched down in Mumbai and was approaching the gate when the emergency slide at the forward left-hand door was inadvertently triggered.

The cabin crew of British Airways has inadvertently triggered emergency slides four times in less than a year under circumstances that can only be described as peculiar.

These accidents, which the aviation industry refers to as “inadvertent slide deployments,” are not unheard of; however, the majority occur when cabin crew members neglect to correctly disarm the slide mechanism before opening the door for standard arrival formalities.

British Airways issued a statement in which they said, “We apologised to customers for the short delay to their flight.” The airline stated that only after being inspected by certified engineers was the aircraft cleared for takeoff.
