Flight Attendant’s Quick Thinking Saves Flamingo Eggs, Sparks Zoo Celebration

In a heartwarming tale of quick thinking and compassion, Alaska Airlines Flight Attendant Amber found herself faced with an unusual request during a flight from Atlanta to Seattle last August.

A passenger, who turned out to be a zoo official, urgently sought Amber’s assistance to keep some precious flamingo eggs warm. The incubator transporting the rare Chilean flamingo eggs had unexpectedly malfunctioned.

Undeterred and thinking on her feet, Amber swiftly gathered rubber gloves, filled them with warm water, and provided an impromptu solution to create a cozy nest for the delicate eggs. The resourcefulness didn’t end there, as fellow passengers generously contributed their coats and scarves for additional insulation.

Alaska Flight Attendants are renowned for their adaptability, and this situation showcased their ability to extend care even to feathered passengers. Months later, Amber received an unexpected call from the zoo, inviting her to meet the baby flamingos she had played a crucial role in saving. A joyful reunion ensued, with all six chicks hatching successfully.

Amber and her granddaughter, Sunny, were granted the privilege of an exclusive tour at Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. The tour included a delightful ‘meet and greet’ session with the recently-hatched flamingo chicks.
