From Cleaner to Captain: A 24-Year Journey of Perseverance and Triumph in the Skies

Mohammed Abubakar’s remarkable journey from an airplane cleaner to a captain is a testament to the power of perseverance and hard work.

Hailing from Nigeria, Abubakar’s odyssey began with humble beginnings as an airplane cleaner, earning a meager daily wage of approximately $0.50 cents. Despite the challenges he faced, his desire to soar higher in life fueled his relentless pursuit of success. With more than 24 years of dedication to the aviation industry, Abubakar’s dream of becoming a pilot has finally taken flight.

His educational aspirations sprouted at a young age, leading him to leave his small Nigerian community to enroll in Kaduna Polytechnic after completing high school. Although he faced obstacles, such as late submission of fundamental criteria preventing him from enrolling in college, Abubakar embraced the opportunities that came his way.

Starting as an airplane cleaner, Abubakar’s hard work and commitment did not go unnoticed. He steadily climbed the ranks, progressing from ground staff to the prestigious position of a cabin crew member. While the pay was significantly higher as a flight attendant, Abubakar’s aspirations were far from satisfied, as his ultimate dream was to become a pilot.

His journey took a pivotal turn when he seized the opportunity to enroll in a pilot training program in Canada, facilitated by his managing director. Abubakar earned his private pilot’s license and, with unwavering determination, continued his pursuit by obtaining a commercial pilot’s license. Currently employed by Azman Air Services Limited in Kano, Nigeria, Abubakar has not only realized his dream but has also been promoted to the esteemed position of captain.
