Lilium Receives EASA Design Organization Approval
Today, Lilium N.V., the creator of the first electric vertical take-off and landing (or “eVTOL”) jet, announced that the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (“EASA“), its main regulatory body, had granted it Design Organisation Approval.
By being the first company in the industry to be granted authorization to hold a type-certificate for an eVTOL aircraft in Europe, Lilium has achieved a significant milestone with this award.
A company’s ability to design and develop safe and compliant aircraft is formally acknowledged by receiving Design Organisation Approval, which serves as a seal of quality assurance for businesses engaged in aviation design.
Lilium’s Design Organisation Approval states that Lilium is authorised to design and hold a type certificate for aircraft built in compliance with the SC-VTOL rules, the comprehensive set of eVTOL regulations that the EASA finalised in 2019 and which stand for the highest safety standards for eVTOL aircraft worldwide.
In accordance with the terms of the Bilateral Aviation Safety Agreement between the United States and the European Union, Lilium is working with the FAA to validate the Lilium Jet concurrently for a type certificate. Lilium is the only eVTOL manufacturer with both an FAA and an EASA certification basis for a powered lift eVTOL aircraft, having received its G-1 from the FAA in June.
