Lufthansa Plans Exclusive A350 Charter Service to Falkland Islands
Lufthansa has unveiled plans for an exceptional charter flight to the Falkland Islands next year, marking a unique route that’s already generating significant interest.
The German airline is scheduled to operate a one-time flight on March 10, 2025, with an Airbus A350-900, covering over 8,000 miles from Munich to Mount Pleasant in the Falklands.
According to Lufthansa’s provisional schedule, flight LH2572 will depart Munich Airport (MUC) at 7:20 AM on March 10, arriving at Mount Pleasant (MPN) in the Falkland Islands at 7:00 PM local time. The return journey, flight LH2573, is set to depart from Mount Pleasant on March 12 at 7:00 PM, landing back in Munich at 1:20 PM the following day, March 13. As reported by Aeroroutes.
These flights will be blocked at approximately 15 hours and 40 minutes outbound, with the return journey taking around 14 hours and 20 minutes. Although the A350-900 has a capacity of 293 seats, this special flight will only carry around 100 passengers.
The Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory, have a population of around 3,000 residents. The capital, Stanley, located on East Falkland Island, houses the majority of the population, around 2,460 people. Though the Islands are self-governed, the United Kingdom remains responsible for their defense and foreign affairs.
This unique charter is already sparking speculation that Argentina, which claims sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, may respond unfavorably to the planned Lufthansa flight. Nevertheless, for aviation enthusiasts, this is a rare and exciting route showcasing the impressive capabilities of the Airbus A350 on a journey to one of the world’s most remote destinations.
