Ryanair Passenger Avoids Baggage Fine with Five-Layer Clothing Trick

A Ryanair passenger, Connor Kirk, ingeniously avoided an excess baggage fine by pulling off a stunt inspired by a famous Friends episode.
Passenger avoided a £50 excess baggage fine
While preparing to board his flight from Lanzarote to his home, Kirk faced a £50 fine for his oversized carry-on duffel bag. Refusing to pay, he decided to emulate Joey Tribbiani from Friends by layering on multiple clothing items.
Despite the amusement it caused, Kirk expressed a serious point about Ryanair’s baggage policies, suggesting that the allowable size for carry-on bags should be reconsidered to accommodate passengers better.
Mr Kirk says that other travelers cheered when he was let through by astonished staff, and the suitcase still fit beneath his seat when he repacked it before takeoff.
Though he finds the situation amusing, he believes Ryanair ought to provide complimentary onboard transportation for larger luggage. “I didn’t mind that everybody was laughing. I felt absolutely no embarrassment. That said, I’m rather outgoing. Someone once said it was like that episode in Friends where Joey wears so many shirts.
The incident was captured on video at Arrecife Airport and quickly went viral on social media, amassing over 9,000 views on Facebook. Kirk expressed satisfaction in potentially inspiring others to save money on airline fees. He emphasized the practicality of his approach, noting that even after repacking his bag, it fit neatly under his seat.
