Spirit Airlines to Cut Jobs, Sell Planes in Response to Financial Challenges

Spirit Airlines is set to revolutionize low-fare travel by introducing a range of new, high-value travel options designed to enhance the guest experience while maintaining affordability.

Beginning August 16, 2024, Spirit will offer a suite of new travel options under a transformative model that introduces premium selections and enhanced comfort across its fleet. These new offerings are set to redefine budget travel by providing a more personalized and enjoyable flying experience.

The new travel options include Go Big, Go Comfy, Go Savvy, and Go, each designed to cater to different traveler needs while providing flexibility with no change or cancel fees. The revamped experience will be fully available by August 27, 2024.

Go Big promises the highest value with a comprehensive suite of amenities. It includes a Big Front Seat® with enhanced comfort, such as wider seats and additional legroom.

Passengers will also enjoy complimentary snacks and drinks, including alcohol, priority check-in and boarding, one carry-on bag, one checked bag, and access to the fastest in-flight Wi-Fi of any U.S.-based airline. Bookings for Go Big will open on August 16, and the full suite of benefits will be available from August 27.

Go Comfy offers a more relaxed travel experience with a guaranteed blocked middle seat, one carry-on bag, one checked bag, priority boarding, and a snack and non-alcoholic beverage. This option will also be available for booking starting August 16, with the new features launching on August 27.

Go Savvy provides flexibility with the choice of either one carry-on bag or one checked bag and includes standard seat selection. This option will be available for booking and travel starting August 16.

Additionally, Spirit will debut a priority check-in experience on August 27 for guests selecting Go Big or those who are Free Spirit® Gold members or Free Spirit World Elite Mastercard holders.

This service will be available at more than 20 airports, including major hubs like Atlanta (ATL), Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), and Fort Lauderdale (FLL). The new priority check-in lane promises a streamlined process, offering front-of-the-line access to the first available ticket counter agent.

The transformation also includes a redesigned boarding process set to debut on August 27. The new system will streamline the boarding experience with five distinct groups, aiming to reduce boarding times and improve operational efficiency.
