Why Vistara Cancels 50 Flights and Delays, Here Is The Reason

Vistara Airlines issues travel advisory due to heavy rains

In a recent development, Vistara, the joint venture airline between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, has been forced to cancel nearly 50 flights, with more disruptions expected as the airline grapples with crew shortages. Reports suggest that the number of cancellations could rise to 70 by Tuesday, amplifying the inconvenience for passengers across its network.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has stepped in, demanding daily updates from Vistara regarding its flight cancellations and delays. Furthermore, the regulatory body has directed the airline to ensure adequate support for affected passengers, including provisions for denied boarding, cancellations, and delays.

According to a Vistara spokesperson, the airline attributes the flight disruptions to a shortage of pilots and crew members. This scarcity has been exacerbated by recent changes in the remuneration structure for first officers of its A320 fleet, leading to challenges in crew availability.

In response to the crisis, Vistara is implementing measures to alleviate the inconvenience faced by passengers. These efforts include scaling back flight operations temporarily and deploying wide-body aircraft such as the B787-9 Dreamliner and A321neo on select domestic routes to accommodate more passengers or merge flights where feasible.

Despite the setbacks, Vistara reassures customers that efforts are underway to stabilize operations and resume normal capacity soon. The airline emphasizes its commitment to minimizing discomfort for travelers and ensuring adequate connectivity across its network.
