American Airlines passenger fined $40,000 for being disruptive
American Airlines has ordered a Hawaiian woman to pay over $40,000 in restitution after she interfered with a crew member and caused the flight to be diverted.

American Airlines has ordered a Hawaiian woman to pay over $40,000 in restitution after she interfered with a crew member and caused the flight to be diverted.
According to the announcement, 29-year-old Cayla Farris of Hawaii was given a sentence last week by a US judge that included just over three and a half months in jail and three years of supervised release. In addition, Farris must reimburse American Airlines $38,952 for expenses incurred from delays brought on by her behaviour.
On September 12, she plead guilty to interfering with a crew member.
Farris boarded an American Airlines trip from Phoenix, Arizona to Honolulu, Hawaii on February 13, 2022. She swore and threatened flight crew members and other passengers during the flight.
Because of Farris’ actions, the flight crew was unable to continue with their duties, and the jet was forced to return to Phoenix. For some passengers, this indicated that many planes were rerouted to Hawaii.
