On Thursday, an Indigo pilot collapsed at the Nagpur airport’s boarding gate and died, just minutes before taking off on a trip to Pune.

The pilot has been identified as Captain Manoj Subramanyam, 40. According to the KIMS-Kingsway Hospital, where Subramanyam was treated, it appears that he had a suspected sudden cardiac arrest.

 The pilot was well-rested before taking off. A day before his death, the pilot flying in the early hours between 3 and 7 am on two sectors, Trivandrum-Pune-Nagpur according to the DGCA.

IndiGo issued a statement following the incident and expressed condolences to the family. “We mourn the loss of one of our pilots who passed away in Nagpur earlier today. He became ill at the airport in Nagpur and was taken right away to the hospital, where he tragically died. His family and loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers.
