Thai Airways Positions for a Significant Widebody Aircraft Deal with Airbus and Boeing

According to report, Thai Airways is considering placing an order with US aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus for up to 90 aircraft, mostly widebody models.
The carrier hopes to add up to 80 twin-aisle aircraft through firm orders, options, and purchase rights. According to the report, it is also thinking about leasing around twelve smaller narrowbody aircraft.
Some of the people stated that the carrier hasn’t decided on the final details of the deal and that an agreement might be reached in the coming weeks. The details of an order could still change. A request for comment from Boeing representatives was not answered, and Airbus stated that it does not discuss customer negotiations.
In a June interview, Chief Executive Officer Chai Eamsiri of Thai Airways stated that the airline would formally send out a request for proposals (RFP) to Boeing and Airbus that same month for aircraft it anticipates receiving to begin delivery in 2026. During that period, the CEO declared that he was looking to purchase roughly thirty new widebody aircraft and multiple A321neos for its Thai Smile regional unit.
