This is the World’s Largest Seaplane Terminal

The Noovilu Seaplane Terminal, situated at Velana International Airport in the Maldives, proudly holds the title of the world’s largest seaplane terminal. Home to over 60 aircraft from Trans Maldivian Airways, it boasts the distinction of hosting the planet’s most extensive seaplane fleet.
Spanning an impressive 28,000 square meters, the terminal includes a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) Facility covering 8,836 square meters. Noteworthy is the terminal’s swift operational efficiency, with a remarkable turnaround time of just 5-10 minutes per resort—a system likened to a seamless bus operation.
At the heart of this sprawling terminal is a luxurious VVIP section spanning 100 square meters, adding an extra touch of exclusivity to the aviation hub. The terminal’s grandeur extends to its 42 lounges, of which 40 are leased to resorts.
The remaining two lounges are under the operation of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). Among these, the ‘Vilu’ business lounge, managed by MACL, accommodates 235 guests, while the ‘Neeru’ lounge provides seating for 315 individuals.
Impressively, the entire development project for the Noovilu Seaplane Terminal commanded a substantial investment, reaching a total value of USD 55 million. This financial commitment underscores the strategic significance of the terminal in enhancing the Maldives’ air travel infrastructure and solidifying its position as a global leader in seaplane operations.
