Stranded Ural Airlines Airbus A320 Set for Dismantling, report

In a remarkable turn of events, the Ural Airlines Airbus A320 that made headlines after an emergency landing in a wheat field, following a fuel exhaustion incident, is now slated for dismantling, as reported by Russian media.

The decision to dismantle the aircraft comes after a comprehensive evaluation, indicating that attempting to fly the Airbus A320 out of the field is no longer a viable option.

Assets on the stranded A320 that hold potential for future reuse will be systematically removed and transported from the wheat field. The incident, which occurred on September 12, 2023, involved the A320’s flight crew making an emergency landing just outside Novosibirsk, in southern Siberia, while en route to Novosibirsk Airport (OVB) after running out of fuel.

The airline had initially proposed the audacious idea of taking off with the commercial jet directly from the wheat field. However, this unconventional plan was eventually deemed unworkable.

Consequently, Ural Airlines found common ground with the farmer, reaching an agreement for compensation. Reports indicate that the farm owner is set to receive approximately US$11,000 as compensation for the damage caused by the A320’s unexpected presence on the farmland.
